The software training for the Maldives Library and Automation Project 2012 has been completed on 7 June 2012. The five-day trainings included a 3 full day training on Koha ILS and 2 full day training on Greenstone Digital Library Software. A total of 34 participants completed the programme with 30 participants in each of the trainings.

The sessions on GSDL were conducted by Ms Fathimath Nashfa with the assistance of the technical team Mr Ahmed Rasheed (from NLM), Mr. Ahmed Shahid (from NLM), and Mr. Nitesh Rijal (Nepzilla Solutions, Nepal).

The two training program were received very positively by all the participants. The feedback from the evaluation of the program demonstrates that the MLA is on the right track in delivering these sessions. We further need to work on incorporating more practical components. Given the shortage of the available timeframe to conduct such hands-on practical sessions, the participants were given plenty of instructions on how to continue the practical components and also about the support mechanism in the implementations of both software.

A small function was held on 7 June 2012, from 14:00 to 15:00 hours to present the participants with certificate of participation in both training programs. The session was convened with recitation from the Holy Quran; followed by an introductory speech about the library automation and digitization project and also about the training by the coordinator of the MLA Koha/GSDL project, Aminath Riyaz; followed by certificate presentation by Mohamed Adly (Head of Educational Programmes Section of EDC). The ceremony was closed with vote of thanks by the Director General of the National Library of Maldives, Mr. Ibrahim Shiyam.
